    Power Planer Blades

The manufacture of woodworking planer blades has naturally evolved alongside technological developments. Previously, it was the case that woodworking planers were handheld tools, but this has changed as time has progressed. Contemporary power planers are now the relative tool of choice; and the standard of work being produced with them is benefiting.

The modern tools can also be operated both manually and electronically dependent on the job in hand. A planing platform commonly accompanies these power planers. This means that sections of wood can be adjusted more quickly and accurately, subsequently improving the end results.

Illuminated shop signs can have a dramatic overall effect on the look of any retail shop. Modern LED lights are cheap to run, low maintenance and long lasting, making them perfect for use on shop signage and business signage.

Stainless Steel 3D Letters for Retail Shop Sign

As professional sign makers in Sheffield, Image Sign Studio is lucky enough to be manufacturing and installing a number of illuminated retail shop signs for the charity Help for Heroes. They originally carried out the manufacture and installation of the Help for Heroes shop sign in the shopping centre Meadowhall last year, and are now manufacturing and installing signs for the shops all over the UK including Birmingham, Peterborough, Essex, Wimbledon and Bromley.

Shop Signs Sheffield and the Use of Dibond

To manufacture the shop signs for this charity, Image Sign Studio used Dibond, which is an aluminium composite material consisting of a polyethylene core and aluminium cover sheet. Dibond is a lightweight yet rigid material, and there are many advantages to using it in sign making. The aluminium alloy is corrosion resistant, making it an excellent choice for shop signs that are likely to be exposed to the elements.

Dibond is also great for printing on too, lending itself especially to digital printing, which is a popular choice for many shop signs Sheffield. Although Dibond is extremely lightweight, it is also very rigid and achieves a perfect flatness. Just what you need for a shop sign!

3D Illuminated Shop Signs from Image Sign Studio

Image Sign Studio was pleased to be able to be involved in this project for Help for Heroes as it is a great cause. Help for Heroes is a tri-service military charity which provides support to full time, reservist Servicemen and women and veterans from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force. They support veterans and serving personnel who have been wounded, injured or become sick as a result of serving their country, and offer support to their families and dependants as they care for their loved ones.

Biomass Installers Yorkshire Back Government Support for Renewable Energy and Biomass Energy Crops

As biomass installers in Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire, Phaseline Renewables are understandably in support of the latest news that fields used for the generation of sources of biomass energy used in biomass boilers Yorkshire will still be eligible for subsidiaries. The latest government switch with regard to renewable energy is the abolition of the subsidies available for farmers who have fields filled with solar panels.  But it’s great that the government are continuing to support farmers who grow biomass crops, and recognising the importance of the UK’s food and farming industry, worth £97 billion to the economy.

                Biomass Fuel from Energy Crops

Energy crops are grown for use as fuel. This means that they deliberately have a high output per hectare, with low inputs. Conventional forestry operates on a long time scale; therefore, income from the trees as biomass fuel is likely to take many years. But if the production of timber is primarily for energy, the timescale does not need to be quite as long. The trees can be harvested for biomass when they are only a few years old. Therefore, short rotation operations in fast growing trees are great for use as biomass fuel.

Using Trees as a Source of Biomass Fuel for Biomass Boilers

Perhaps the most obvious source of biomass is that which is produced from trees. This doesn’t necessarily mean that trees have to be chopped down either; wood fuel can be derived from the thinning or trimming of woodlands as part of conventional forestry practice and the sustainable management of woodland. Biomass can also be derived from the management of parks, gardens and transport corridors, as well as from tree surgery operations. Biomass fuel which is obtained from trees can be described as ‘virgin wood’, provided that they have not been used for another purpose.

Fuelling a Biomass Boiler Yorkshire with Agricultural Residues

There are a variety of agricultural residues that can be used as a source of energy for biomass boilers. There are many agricultural crops and processes that yield residues that can potentially be used for energy applications. For example, dry residues from arable crops can be used, such as straw or husks. Wet residues can also be used; these are residues and wastes that have high water content as collected. Obviously, wet residues will need to be processed, as they are generally energetically inefficient for combustion or gasification.

Upcycling is basically the process of taking unwanted items and converting them into new materials or better products that can be used and loved. In the Channel 4 programme ‘Kirstie’s Fill Your House for Free’, crafting and upcycling queen Kirstie Allsop salvages all sorts of discarded items from skips or scrimpers’ websites such as FreeCycle and Gumtree. From old mirrors, lamps and photo frames to larger items of furniture, Kirstie and her team breathe new life into them, transforming these objects into things that anyone would be proud to have in their home.

Transforming Unwanted Items into Treasure with Up-Cycling

The popular pastime of up cycling has taken the UK by storm as programmes such as Kirstie’s Fill Your House for Free are inspiring people up and down the country to make someone else’s unwanted items into something beautiful and useful. As experts in rubbish removal and house clearance Sheffield, Clearance and Clean Up see many unwanted possessions, pieces of furniture, household objects and more, removed from houses all over Yorkshire on a daily basis. It’s great to think that those items, obviously unwanted by their owners, may have a new life in someone else’s home at a later date.

Kirstie explained to viewers on Good Morning Britain that she thinks society is changing its attitude to second-hand goods. “We’ve been conned for a long time into this belief that new is better and that somehow you have to have everything new,” said Kirstie. “It is easier, but environmentally it’s disastrous and economically it’s idiotic because there are so many things that are so much cheaper.”

Door Knockers with Faces Are Thought to Scare off Evil Spirits

It is quite common for some antique door knockers to have faces on them; often rather grotesque human faces that aren’t particularly attractive. The theory behind this practice is that the scary face would serve to frighten off evil spirits, witches and unwanted spirit beings.

Brass and Copper Door Knobs are Antimicrobial

The surfaces of copper and its alloys, such as brass and bronze, have the advantage of being antimicrobial. This means that they are able to kill a range of harmful microbes relatively quickly. As you can imagine, this property makes brass and copper a good choice for healthcare environments, but it can also be reassuring to know that if you choose to have brass or copper door knobs in your home, microbes can be killed off within 2 hours or less!

The First Door Knob Was Manufactured in the USA

Door knobs have been used around the world for centuries and the first ever door knob was made in the USA around the middle of the 19th century. American doorknob designs and materials have changed over the years. The first ever door knobs were made out of wood in colonial times, involving a simple system of latches and strings.

Door knobs are made up of 4 main parts. The basic components are the knob rose, shank, spindle and knob top. The knob top is the upper and larger part that is grasped in the hand. The shank is the stem of the knob and contains a hole or socket to receive the spindle. The knob rose is a washer or round plate that forms a knob socket and is adapted for attaching it to the surface of the door. The knob is attached to the spindle, which consists of a metal shaft that is used to turn the latch of the lock.

Now is the time to ensure that you make the most of attracting the shoppers into your retail store. According to Mintel’s Christmas 2014 predictions, although online sales are again set to increase, a whopping 87% of all retail sales will be made in shops in December 2014.

Online business Website City AM recently reported that although fewer shoppers visited shopping centres and high streets this summer, retail spending was actually at its highest since January.

Footfall in Out of Town Retail Parks Decreases

The Director of the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Helen Dickinson said that although footfall had decreased, the amount of money that was spent by shoppers per trip had actually increased. The data went on to reveal that although footfall has decreased on high streets and shopping centres, it increased by 2.9% in out-of-town retail parks during August 2014.

“It seems that customers are hitting the high streets with purpose – knowing what they want to buy ahead of time, supported by online research – and doing more shopping in a single trip,” Helen Dickinson said.

                            Expert Sign Makers Sheffield

As expert sign makers in Sheffield, Image Sign Studio are well aware of the increasing popularity of online shopping, but we firmly believe that there is plenty of scope for retail shops to claim their fair share of the market. There’s nothing like going into a shop and physically holding a product, then to come home with the item in your shopping bag on that very day. For all the convenience of online shopping, there’s only so much you can find out about the item from looking at it on a screen and reading reviews.

Online shopping may be as popular as ever, but the research suggests that there is still an enormous amount of people stepping out on the high street, shopping centres and retail parks.

A recent article published in the Sheffield Star reports how the local council are cracking down on those caught fly-tipping in the Sheffield area. According to the newspaper, fines of more than £700 are being handed out by Sheffield Council for those people who are caught dumping rubbish and unwanted waste items.

The article comes after a substantial amount of rubbish, which included sheets of the dangerous substance asbestos, was found dumped in a car park in Loxley Common, Loxley, a member of the public came forward and reported the act of fly-tipping to the council.

                                Experts in Rubbish Removal Sheffield

As experts in rubbish removal Sheffield, the staff at Clearance and Clean Up are always really disappointed by local reports of fly-tipping. It’s such a shame that this sort of crime still goes on when there are plenty of options to dispose of rubbish and other unwanted items that are safe and affordable, as opposed to illegal.

                                Fly Tipping Prosecutions in Sheffield

Coun Jack Scott, cabinet member for environment, recycling and Streetscene, said: “Last year we had 19 prosecutions for fly-tipping, with the highest fine over £700.There is no excuse for this disgusting and totally unnecessary behaviour. People who dump waste in this way should have more pride in their area and not commit this ignorant crime. We take a zero-tolerance approach and use every tool at our disposal to catch these criminals.” Coun Scott has also urged residents to report any problems to the council so that they can be resolved as quickly as possible.

Last year, there were 19 prosecutions for fly-tipping in Sheffield. As a result of the recent incident in Loxley, Sheffield Council is reminding the general public of the council’s zero-tolerance approach to catch those responsible and hopefully prosecute them.

Latest Case Study for Biomass Installation from Biomass Installers Lincolnshire

This is a case study from Phaseline Renewables outlining the environmental benefits of a biomass boiler Lincolnshire, including financial benefits from the domestic renewable heat incentive.

                                    Biomass Pellet Boiler Installation

Mr. & Mrs. Somerscales also had imminent plans to build an annex extension to their home, so they wanted a new boiler system that could cope with this additional heating demand. They started looking at biomass pellet boilers, and considering having one installed in their home. Their existing log fired boiler was old and proving hard to maintain and run, and a biomass boiler seemed like a good solution to their problem.

As expert biomass installers Lincolnshire, Phaseline Renewables installed an OkoFen 32kW pellet boiler in their home. The biomass boiler is currently a manual fill with which Mr. & Mrs. Somerscales fill using bags of pellets.  However, we plan to fit a bulk hopper at a later date in order to make the maintenance of the boiler easier and relieve the couple of having to fill the biomass boiler manually.

The boiler is controlled using OkoFen’s PAW pump stations, which are designed in this instance to control three central heating circuits and two hot water circuits.  The pump stations ensure that the boiler operates incredibly efficiently and the weather compensation option on the boiler allows the system to modulate itself with the external weather conditions.

With this system, Mr. & Mrs. Somerscales now have a boiler that can be controlled independently from either the main house or the new annex and is delivering them more heat for less money than their old boiler.

Wood Pellets and Biomass Boilers Lincolnshire

Wood pellets used in biomass boilers are made of 100% natural wood. They are manufactured by compressing sawdust and shavings under high pressure and pressed into small cylindrical rolls held together by lignin, which is naturally contained in the wood. Therefore, wood pellets are clean and convenient. They are also environmentally friendly, in that more wood is renewed than it is consumed.

                                    The Renewable Heat Incentive

Aside from the environmental and ecological benefits of a biomass boiler Lincolnshire, Mr. & Mrs. Somerscales will also be able to benefit from the domestic renewable heat incentive. Launched in April 2014, this scheme offers regular ‘tariff’ payments to those using certain technologies, such as biomass boilers, to heat their homes.

Many of Knife-Point’s trimming knife blades are manufactured in the home of steel – Sheffield. With a rich history in steel manufacture, Sheffield has forged a great reputation for high quality steel blades; and Knife-Point take pride in being the industry leader in the area.

Hardened and tempered carbon steel is used to make their heavy duty, high quality blades – ensuring that the blades are able to withstand the most arduous materials and the most difficult of tasks.
