Quality end results are a sure way to ensure satisfaction when it comes to product creation. One of the ways you can stay happy is through the consistent application of the most reliable tools; which is something Knife-Point are accustomed to providing to their customers.

With a great selection of cutting products, this Sheffield-based knife supplier continues to help tradesmen working across a number of different sectors. These individuals regularly require top quality planer blades to best do their jobs; which Knife-Point are always able to supply.

By using planer blades purchased directly from them, you can help yourself to avoid the sort of pitfalls people who are using unreliable alternatives can fall into. Knife-Point have listed some of the things you can look forward to leaving behind when you move to them as your regular supplier:

You Won’t Achieve Accurate End Results

Whether you’re knowingly or unwittingly using the wrong planer blades, you can be sure that the end results will be the same. If you’ve not taken the time to research the type or size of blade you need, then it’s likely you’ll not see the realisation of the finished products that you’re aspiring towards. If you research the tools you need in detail, you’ll reap the rewards when it comes to the date of completion.

You’ll Waste the Materials You’ve Bought

The problem with not achieving the end results that you’re hoping for is that you’re likely to have to start again. As a result of this, you’ll lose the monetary investment that you’ve dedicated towards the materials you’ve used in a project, so it’s a given that you’ll feel frustrated as a result. Choose the right cutting tools from this point forward and you can pre-empt the issue.

Nobody Likes to See Their Time Wasted

As well as your money, you can also end up losing time due to the use of poor quality planer blades. Selecting the right ones from the start – and then making sure that you keep them in pristine working order – can help you to avoid the unwanted scenario of looking back negatively at time you’ve wasted.

        Don’t Lose Customers

Most importantly, you’re not going to satisfy your customers with the products you produce unless they are of an immaculate quality. You can help achieve consistently superb standards with our help of Knife-Point’s tools, which will enable you to retain your existing clients and add more to go with them when your reputation for attention to detail grows.

              Replacing Your Handheld Planer Blades

              leave a comment

              Be Sociable, Share!

By following a few simple steps, you can easily change your handheld planer blades. Knife-Point are experts in knife supply and are well placed to advise on such matters. They have been the industry leader in the Sheffield area for a number of years and have put together an extensive guide on how to efficiently change your planer blades:

                Cut the Power

This is an absolute necessity. To ensure your safety when you’re carrying out a change of blades, always make sure that the power supply is disconnected to the device. Changing the blades whilst the device is live is an absolute no.

                Loosening and Removal

Next, gently loosen the bolts or fasteners on your handheld device. You don’t need to completely remove the fastenings and easy blade removal will be possible through the initial loosening. Make sure that you take care when removing the blade as it’s likely to still be very sharp. You can then spin the cutter head round and repeat the process on the other side.

                New Knife Blades

Once you’ve removed the existing blades you can then replace them with your new planer blades. To do this, gently fit the new blade with the shape of the planer blade groove and slide it into place. Hold it in the position where you would like it to remain, then take your wrench and loosely tighten up the outer two bolts on your handheld planer – simple.

Be Careful During the Tightening Process

Taking care during the tightening process is essential. The new blade will be extremely sharp so don’t rush through the replacement process. Before sliding the blade into place you may also need to remove any resin that has been left behind. You can do this using paraffin and oil or by gently scraping the debris away.

                Correctly Align

Finally, you need to verify that the knife blade is central in relation to your handheld planer. This is essential, as it will prevent the knife from rubbing on the edges of the machine. Once this has been guaranteed you can finish tightening the bolts. Again, simply repeat this on the other side.

Stanley Knife Blades and Planer Blades from Knife-Point

Knife-Point stocks fine grain tungsten carbide planer blades suitable to fit planers from reputable manufacturers such as AEG and Black & Decker. They understand that everyone needs plenty of choice when it comes to deciding on their new tools and once you purchase from Knife-Point for the first time you’re sure to go back to them.

Without understanding both the importance of keeping your planer blades in good condition – and also how best to utilize it – not only will your planer blade not work properly, it will also subsequently result in you being unable to produce a high standard product.

                                    Understanding Planer Blades Maintenance

If ones of your planer blades requires maintenance, then you will need to follow a number of simple steps to carry out the job successfully. There are a number of resources available to tell you how you can do it best; which include guidelines on using an oiled whetstone, the importance of removing chips on the blade and ensuring that the blade is worked with a pushing action and not a pulling action

When it comes to understanding whether your product needs to be maintained, it is helpful to do your research (we often provide advice through this blog). Perhaps the best way to test the sharpness of the blade is by tilting it up to the light. By observing how the light reflects off the bevel of the blade, you can gauge its condition. If the blade is sharp, then the bevel will appear flat.

Take Time to Maintain Your Planer Blades

It is useful to wait a few seconds when you start up your planer to carry out work. This enables the motor to reach full speed; and the blade can now be eased into contact with the material. From this point, you can push forward at a steady pace, ensuring that you continue to apply pressure on the front of the planer as it meets your piece of work.

When actually implementing the use of planer blades proper balance is essential. Distribution of body weight – by keeping your feet apart in a comfortable position – enables you to maintain the closest control when using a wood planer. Naturally, the end product will emanate accuracy and quality as a result.
