leave a comment

As time goes on, your wedding album and wedding photography prints will become one of the most important lasting physical reminders of your wedding day, so it makes sense to ensure that they are displayed beautifully around your home, or in albums. Here at James Davies wedding photography in Nottingham and Worksop, we understand just how important your wedding photos are when looking back on your special day and remembering all the magical moments.

Wedding Photography Prints and Albums

Here at James Davies wedding photography Nottinghamshire, we offer a range of photograph albums in addition to our wedding photography and engagement portrait service. It’s all part of the service to include a USB device containing all of your final edited images, and an online private gallery containing all the final images.

But we do offer optional extras in the form of prints and albums, too. For example, a 8” x 6” beautifully presented coffee table book containing a selection of your photos can be yours for £80, or you could opt for a handmade 12” x 10” 10 page album for £199. We also offer a range of wedding photography albums sized 8” x 6” up to 20” x 20” in a variety of finishes. Or there’s the option of two handmade mini parent albums for £150 which make the perfect gift.

Thoughtful Gifts for Friends and Family

Wedding photography albums can also make really thoughtful and attractive gifts for family and friends. It’s a lovely way of saying thank you for their attendance at the wedding, and possibly for their help and involvement in planning the big day. Offering an album as a gift after the big day means that your relatives and friends can also have a lasting reminder of your wedding to cherish for years to come.

4 Great Locations for Wedding Photography Nottinghamshire

leave a comment

It’s really important to do the venue justice when capturing it in wedding photography, as it’s a big part of any couple’s big day. Couples obviously choose their wedding venues very carefully, and many are special locations for them for several reasons. My job as a professional wedding photographer in Nottingham and Mansfield means that I have had the pleasure of visiting some really gorgeous wedding venues. So if you’re looking for a stunning wedding venue nearby, why not consider these beauties?

Ringwood Hall, Derbyshire

Ringwood Hall is another fantastic wedding location, this time in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Situation at the gateway of the Peak District National Park, Ringwood Hall is an absolutely beautiful Georgian grade 11 listed Manor House with its own Health and Fitness Club, indoor pool and gym. It’s a lovey location with really well kept grounds, so it’s no surprise that they host over 100 weddings a year.

Hodsock Priory, Nottinghamshire

Another great Nottinghamshire wedding photography location is Hodsock Priory, a historic country house set in 800 acres of countryside on the boarder of South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. As an award winning wedding venue, it’s a very popular location for weddings. There’s even a snowdrop covered lawn and an Italian terrace on the estate, creating lots of opportunities to take beautiful wedding photography.

Thoresby Hall, Nottinghamshire

Thoresby Hall is one of my favourite places for Nottinghamshire wedding photography. The building is grade 1 listed, and is a 19th century country house in Budby, about 2 miles north of Ollerton. It’s now a hotel, and the perfect location for a wedding. Set in 30 acres of gardens, it’s a fantastic place to escape it all in grand Victorian surroundings.

Colwick Hall Hotel, Nottingham

Colwick Hall Hotel is a truly magnificent Palladian style Georgian country house mansion in Nottingham. It’s nestled within more than 60 acres of parkland, and is the ancestral home of Lord Byron. The building dates back to Saxon times, is grade 11 listed, and located about 2 miles from Nottingham City Centre. It’s a very popular location for weddings, with a grand entrance overlooking the racecourse and a beautiful Grand Ballroom.

Nottingham Wedding Photographer Suggests Inspiring Ideas for Wedding Cakes

leave a comment

If you’re in the process of planning a wedding and struggling for ideas for your wedding cake, we’ve picked out a few of our favourites that will definitely inspire you (and probably make you hungry!) Here at James Davies wedding photography in Nottingham, we’ve been lucky enough to see our fair share of absolutely amazing wedding cakes.

Quirky, Personalised 3 Tiered Wedding Cake

For those looking for something a little different, this quirky wedding cake is sure to make an impression on your guests. We love the fact that it is just so personal; the cake toppers lovingly crafted into miniature versions of the bride and groom from icing are gorgeous. The middle layer has been designed to resemble a tree trunk with the couple’s initials carved into it to look like wood. It’s even complete with knots and grain to create the effect of bark. The woodland feel is continued in the top and bottom tier, which are decorated with large white flowers made from icing, and blades of grass around the base.

Traditional Tiered Wedding Cake with White Royal Icing

Tiered cakes have always been a traditional wedding staple, and this gorgeous example is a beautifully classic example. Finished with deep purple ribbon to compliment the day’s accessories, this cake also features delicate hearts finely crafted from white icing to add interest and testure to each individual cake. Topped with a trio of white roses, this is a gorgeous example of a classic and elegant tiered wedding cake.

Modern Floral Tiered Wedding Cake

This gorgeous wedding cake is a contemporary twist on a classic tiered design. Although the white royal icing, ribbon and tiered arrangement are very traditional, this couple have opted for a modern floral design that cascades down the length of the cake. The large yellow gerberas, orange roses and splashes of green foliage all delicately crafted from sugar icing make for a bright, cheerful cake with plenty of personality.

Nottingham Wedding Photographer Engagement and Pre Wedding Photography

leave a comment

As a professional wedding photographer in Nottinghamshire and Mansfield, I have come across lots of people who are slightly uncomfortable at having the camera pointed at them. It can be even more daunting to have someone you don’t know very well pointing that camera at you. That’s why I think it can be a good idea to schedule in a little pre-wedding photography session so that you can get to know me, get comfy with me, and allow me to get a feel for what you hope to achieve from your wedding photography on your big day.

A pre wedding or engagement photo shoot is a fantastic way to get you and your partner ready for your official wedding photography. Some people are total naturals when it comes to having their photo taken, and really enjoy the process. But for others, it can mean feeling a little self conscious and uncomfortable!

Steph and Joel’s Pre-Wedding Engagement Photography Session

This is a great example of an engagement shoot that I was lucky enough to capture in some beautiful photographs of a bride and groom to be. We ventured into a wild flower project run by Donaster Council, and then moved on to Kings Wood outside Bawtry to capture the golden glow from the setting sun. I’m particularly fond of the shot of Steph and Joel bathed in sunlight surrounded by an array of beautiful, colourful flowers. I love the way that the evening sun illuminates their figures and intensifies the vibrancy of the flowers.

Getting Used to Being in Front of the Camera

Pre-wedding or engagement photography sessions are a great way to ease you in to your wedding photography. Establishing a rapport is really important in helping you to achieve natural, relaxed wedding photography that you can look back on with pride. My aim is to put you at ease in front of the camera so that you can fully relax and enjoy being photographed. It’s also the perfect opportunity to have some fun, play around with ideas you may have, and find out exactly what works best for you!

Groomsmen Outfit Ideas from Nottingham Wedding Photographer

leave a comment

Floral Buttonholes

A classic traditional male accessory at a wedding is the floral buttonhole, seen here in pale pink. The groom wears the same shade and complementing the pink of the groomsmen’s ties, which ties everything in nicely. I particularly like the way that the groom wears grey with a darker tie and brown shoes, a refreshing contrast to the dark navy of his groomsmen.

Blue Suits and Leather Shoes

This is lovely example of a great colour scheme for groom and groomsmen. I really like the royal blue of the groomsmen’s suits, complete with tan leather belts and shoes and complimented by pale blue silk ties and handkerchiefs. The groom himself wears a blue suit in a slightly darker shade, and tan brogues with blue detail to subtly distinguish him from his groomsmen.

Bow Ties and Chequered Waistcoats

This great waistcoat and bow tie ensemble was sure to make a big impression on this groom’s big day. We loved the quirky floral fabric of the bow tie and the clashing checks of the waistcoat – it just worked! You’ll notice beautiful little leather covered buttons and a pocket watch chain add to this distinctly vintage look. I ensured that the bow tie was the focal point of this photo by getting the groom to casually tweak it as he stood, drawing attention this particular accessory and guiding the eyes up towards his face.

It’s not just the ladies that have a lot to think about when it comes to wedding dresses and bridesmaids outfits – oh no! Groomsmen and grooms have also got their work cut out for them when it comes to looking smart and stylish on the big day. As a professional wedding photographer in Nottingham and Mansfield, James Davies has had the pleasure of photographing some really fantastic groom and groomsmen outfits, some of which are classic and traditional, and others quirky and individual!
