It’s really important to do the venue justice when capturing it in wedding photography, as it’s a big part of any couple’s big day. Couples obviously choose their wedding venues very carefully, and many are special locations for them for several reasons. My job as a professional wedding photographer in Nottingham and Mansfield means that I have had the pleasure of visiting some really gorgeous wedding venues. So if you’re looking for a stunning wedding venue nearby, why not consider these beauties?

        Ringwood Hall, Derbyshire

Ringwood Hall is another fantastic wedding location, this time in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Situation at the gateway of the Peak District National Park, Ringwood Hall is an absolutely beautiful Georgian grade 11 listed Manor House with its own Health and Fitness Club, indoor pool and gym. It’s a lovey location with really well kept grounds, so it’s no surprise that they host over 100 weddings a year.

        Hodsock Priory, Nottinghamshire

Another great Nottinghamshire wedding photography location is Hodsock Priory, a historic country house set in 800 acres of countryside on the boarder of South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. As an award winning wedding venue, it’s a very popular location for weddings. There’s even a snowdrop covered lawn and an Italian terrace on the estate, creating lots of opportunities to take beautiful wedding photography.

        Thoresby Hall, Nottinghamshire

Thoresby Hall is one of my favourite places for Nottinghamshire wedding photography. The building is grade 1 listed, and is a 19th century country house in Budby, about 2 miles north of Ollerton. It’s now a hotel, and the perfect location for a wedding. Set in 30 acres of gardens, it’s a fantastic place to escape it all in grand Victorian surroundings.

        Colwick Hall Hotel, Nottingham

Colwick Hall Hotel is a truly magnificent Palladian style Georgian country house mansion in Nottingham. It’s nestled within more than 60 acres of parkland, and is the ancestral home of Lord Byron. The building dates back to Saxon times, is grade 11 listed, and located about 2 miles from Nottingham City Centre. It’s a very popular location for weddings, with a grand entrance overlooking the racecourse and a beautiful Grand Ballroom.

Why You Should Hire a Professional Wedding Photographer Nottingham

I thought I’d briefly touch upon the importance of hiring a professional for the job, as opposed to leaving it to your guests or letting a friend with a good camera have a go at it for you. Many people describe their wedding day as one of the most important days of their lives, so it makes sense to want to record that day in stunning wedding photography. As a professional wedding photographer Mansfield and Nottinghamshire, here are my thoughts on why I think that hiring a professional is a good idea.

            Insurance and Back Up Equipment

A professional wedding photographer will be covered for all eventualities. That means a spare camera, back up batteries, and back up memory cards. The chances that they will actually be needed are slim, but they are there. It’s the same with insurance; if something goes wrong, a professional is covered. Personally, I am fully insured for both liability and professional indemnities.

An Experienced Wedding Photographer Has Been to Numerous Weddings!

An experienced wedding photographer will have a good idea of the ins and outs of a wedding day and everything that goes along with them. I’ve been to countless weddings, and photographed many more, therefore I know just where to look and when! Whether it’s sneaking in the perfect romantic shot of a tender moment between the bride and groom, or catching a mother in law wiping the tears from her eyes, I’ll be there and ready with the camera. These moments are priceless, I want you to remember them.

            More Than Just a Camera

Although having a great camera is a good place to start, beautiful wedding photography is about so much more than that. Professional photographers have spent hours training, and clocked up even more hours in experience, making them experts at what they do. From composing a shot to editing it afterwards, these skills take time, effort and a pinch of talent to perfect.

            Wedding Photographer Mansfield and Nottingham

In addition to my wedding photography services, I also offer a variety of optional extras. These include pre-wedding engagement shoots and a range of bespoke wedding photography albums, books, and framed pictures. Unique Details in Wedding Photography Nottingham

              Be Sociable, Share!

As a wedding photographer in Nottingham and Mansfield, I know exactly how important my job is when capturing the unforgettable moments of a wedding day. Although the day may pass in a whirlwind of emotions and excitement for the happy couple and the guests, I make it my job to record those special details so that everyone can look back on the photos with admiration and joy.

                Place Holders and Table Settings

This lovely collection of images shows a selection of details from a recent wedding. I particularly like the close up of the table setting, showing a cute slate heart as a place holder, simple white linen and classic cutlery. The focus of this photograph is on the detail of the table setting, with the rest of the scene slightly out of focus to accentuate the focal point. Images of details such as the signs for the reception area and the venue add personal touches to details of the day that may be overlooked otherwise. It’s all about the detail!

                Handmade Wedding Accessories

One of my personal favourites and something of an inspiration to me were the delicate handmade details of this wedding day. Everything from the bridesmaid’s dresses and groom’s ties, bow ties and handkerchiefs, to the bunting, table decorations and wedding favours were all designed by the bride and created by her Mother. Needless to say, details such as this cannot be overlooked in great wedding photography, and I did my very best to do them justice.

Lego Cufflinks and Colour Co-ordinated Accessories

This quirky image is a great example of the importance of capturing the details in my wedding photography Nottingham. These fantastic groomsmen have all embraced a Lego cufflink theme in hot pink and royal blue, adding a quirky, individual touch to something that could so easily be overlooked. They also match the colour scheme of the wedding, tying in with everything from socks, ribbons and accessories.

                Wedding Photographer Mansfield and Nottingham

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer in Nottingham or a wedding photographer in Mansfield, I can help. Inspirational Ideas for Outfits and Accessories for Flower Girls and Bridesmaids

If you have set the date for your wedding and are in the process of choosing your own unique details for your big day, here’s a selection of ideas for your bridesmaid’s dresses and accessories that may just provide you with some much needed inspiration. My job as a professional wedding photographer in Nottingham and Mansfield means that I have been lucky enough to witness a great many weddings. As a photographer, I always keep my eyes open for the unique details of the day; everything from flowers and food, to groomsmen and bridesmaids outfits.

Flowers Girl Dresses in Teal with Matching Accessories and Fur Stoles

It’s all about the accessories in these flower girls’ outfits. I love the cute fur stole fastened around their little shoulders and the sash style waist bands in matching teal. The little handbag also looks great with such a vibrant colour, illustrating how the little details can really bring an outfit together.

                    Strapless Bridesmaids Dresses in Blue

These lovely bridesmaids’ dresses are in a rich blue, and if you look closely, they complement the little purple-blue flowers in their bouquets. Strapless dresses are a popular choice for both brides and bridesmaids; they create a very elegant and sophisticated silhouette that’s just perfect for the occasion. The bridesmaids in this picture wear matching pearl necklaces which were given to them as gifts on the day, which is a lovely, sentimental touch that finishes the look off nicely.

Purple Flower Girl Dresses with Floral Details

This is a particularly lovely example of flower girl dresses. The beautiful purple fabric had a way of catching the light so that it almost looked pink to create a two toned effect. Delicately gathered at the waist, each dress had a trio of fabric flowers to form a kind of mini bustle at the base of the back section. They’ve teamed these gorgeous dresses with little white ballet pumps and a floral headband to complete the look.

Nottingham Wedding Photographer Suggests Inspiring Ideas for Wedding Cakes

                      Be Sociable, Share!

If you’re in the process of planning a wedding and struggling for ideas for your wedding cake, we’ve picked out a few of our favourites that will definitely inspire you (and probably make you hungry!) Here at James Davies wedding photography in Nottingham, we’ve been lucky enough to see our fair share of absolutely amazing wedding cakes.

Quirky, Personalised 3 Tiered Wedding Cake

For those looking for something a little different, this quirky wedding cake is sure to make an impression on your guests. We love the fact that it is just so personal; the cake toppers lovingly crafted into miniature versions of the bride and groom from icing are gorgeous. The middle layer has been designed to resemble a tree trunk with the couple’s initials carved into it to look like wood. It’s even complete with knots and grain to create the effect of bark. The woodland feel is continued in the top and bottom tier, which are decorated with large white flowers made from icing, and blades of grass around the base.

Traditional Tiered Wedding Cake with White Royal Icing

Tiered cakes have always been a traditional wedding staple, and this gorgeous example is a beautifully classic example. Finished with deep purple ribbon to compliment the day’s accessories, this cake also features delicate hearts finely crafted from white icing to add interest and testure to each individual cake. Topped with a trio of white roses, this is a gorgeous example of a classic and elegant tiered wedding cake.

                        Modern Floral Tiered Wedding Cake

This gorgeous wedding cake is a contemporary twist on a classic tiered design. Although the white royal icing, ribbon and tiered arrangement are very traditional, this couple have opted for a modern floral design that cascades down the length of the cake. The large yellow gerberas, orange roses and splashes of green foliage all delicately crafted from sugar icing make for a bright, cheerful cake with plenty of personality.

As a professional wedding photographer in Nottinghamshire and Mansfield, I have come across lots of people who are slightly uncomfortable at having the camera pointed at them. It can be even more daunting to have someone you don’t know very well pointing that camera at you. That’s why I think it can be a good idea to schedule in a little pre-wedding photography session so that you can get to know me, get comfy with me, and allow me to get a feel for what you hope to achieve from your wedding photography on your big day.

A pre wedding or engagement photo shoot is a fantastic way to get you and your partner ready for your official wedding photography. Some people are total naturals when it comes to having their photo taken, and really enjoy the process. But for others, it can mean feeling a little self conscious and uncomfortable!

Steph and Joel’s Pre-Wedding Engagement Photography Session

This is a great example of an engagement shoot that I was lucky enough to capture in some beautiful photographs of a bride and groom to be. We ventured into a wild flower project run by Donaster Council, and then moved on to Kings Wood outside Bawtry to capture the golden glow from the setting sun. I’m particularly fond of the shot of Steph and Joel bathed in sunlight surrounded by an array of beautiful, colourful flowers. I love the way that the evening sun illuminates their figures and intensifies the vibrancy of the flowers.

Getting Used to Being in Front of the Camera

Pre-wedding or engagement photography sessions are a great way to ease you in to your wedding photography. Establishing a rapport is really important in helping you to achieve natural, relaxed wedding photography that you can look back on with pride. My aim is to put you at ease in front of the camera so that you can fully relax and enjoy being photographed. It’s also the perfect opportunity to have some fun, play around with ideas you may have, and find out exactly what works best for you!

Pre-Wedding ‘Getting Ready’ Images from Wedding Photography Nottinghamshire

As a professional wedding photographer in Nottinghamshire, I really enjoy capturing the ‘getting ready’ moments before a wedding. There’s something really personal and beautiful about documenting the excitement and anticipation of the run up to the big event, and I feel honoured to be able to capture these private moments in my wedding photography. It’s becoming more and more popular to not only capture intimate moments at your wedding, but to document the getting ready stage using candid wedding photography too.

                                ‘Getting Ready’ Photo Tips

If you plan on inviting your wedding photographer to take some pre-wedding photos such as these, there are some things that you can do to ensure that you get the best shots. Of course, the morning of your wedding is likely to be slightly manic, and there may well be a bit of a mess going on in the area that you’re trying to get organised in. But try your best to keep it as tidy and uncluttered as is possible, the last thing you want is to see is empty pizza boxes! You could also coordinate your dressing gown or pyjamas to match your wedding colour scheme, this way you’ll tie the pre-wedding photos in with the ones from the rest of the day, creating a seamless continuation of images.

                                Candid ‘Make Up’ Mirror Shot

This is a great shot of a bride to be carefully applying her make up in the mirror. It’s a really intimate and personal photograph, capturing the careful preparation for, and quiet anticipation of the ceremony. I really like the way that she is reflected in the mirror in this photograph; it adds another dimension to the picture and suggests the candid capture of a private moment in the run up to the main event.

Series of Pre-Wedding ‘Getting Ready’ Images

This example of a pre wedding ‘getting ready’ photograph documents the transformation of the bride through the use of three images side by side. I love the way that in the first image the subject looks directly into the camera with her hair gently falling over her face. The second image depicts a makeup artist carefully applying her lipstick, with closed shadowed eyes and flawless skin. I particularly like the third image, which is a close up of her glossy brown hair, teased into beautiful shiny curls that cascade down her back; a beautiful and striking contrast to the white of her wedding gown.

If you’re looking for an experienced and professional wedding photographer Nottingham, James Davies can help.

                                    Bold, Colourful Buttonholes

These orange calla lilies really set off the green of the foliage in these buttonholes to make a modern, colourful statement. Calla lilies are an unusual choice for a buttonhole, but the rich orange fading into pale yellow made a beautiful addition to the dark suits of the groomsmen.

                                    Rustic Wild Flowers

There’s something really quaint and pretty about these floral centre pieces. Tied with natural raffia string and placed in an assortment of vases and jugs, this wedding truly nailed the rustic look with dried ears of corn and delicate wild flowers.

                                    Diamante Embellishments for Bouquets

This bouquet of white roses is beautifully classic and elegant, and if you look closely, you’ll see that at the centre of each flower, there is a tiny diamante pin. This is a fantastic way of adding a touch of glamour to your bouquet, and works really well when the colour scheme for the flowers is kept fairly simple. The cluster of traditional pearls and sparkly crystals as a focal point makes this bouquet a really glamorous choice.

At James Davies wedding photography Nottingham, they have the pleasure of photographing a great many weddings. It’s always lovely to see how couple’s have expressed themselves with their choice of clothes, accessories, favours and flowers. Weddings are perfect for expressing your creativity; there are just so many ways that you can put your own unique stamp on your big day.  If you looking for some great ideas for your wedding flowers, or you are perhaps looking for something slightly different from the traditional, here are a few that have caught our eye over the past few years.

                                        Fun Fair Wedding Photos

This gorgeous collection of images was taken in a fair ground, and I absolutely love the vibrant colours and lights that are captured in them. The juxtaposition of the traditional white wedding dress with the beautiful jewel like coloured lights and rainbow coloured sweets adds a whole new dimension to this couple’s wedding photographs. As you can see, the bride in one of these images is driving a retro style bumper car, surrounded by neon lights. I really like this image; it’s obvious that she’s having fun!

                                        A Chesterfield in the Garden

Here’s another example of wedding photography with a twist, and one of my personal favourites. This image features a happy couple sitting on a Chesterfield sofa. The sofa was deliberately placed outside the wedding venue on the grass of the front lawn. I like the way that both the bride and groom are staring directly at the camera, and the casual way that the bride has placed her head on her husband’s knee, with her wedding dress falling gentle across the sofa. Also, if you look closely, you’ll notice that the bride is wearing colourful trainers, another fun and cheeky feature of an already quirky composition.

                                        Silhouettes in the Rain

Another example of a slightly out of the ordinary wedding shot, this couple stand silhouetted under an umbrella, covered while the rain falls around them. There’s something almost theatrical about this image, with the illumination of the rain drops and the striking contrast between light and dark. It’s also incredibly romantic, giving the idea that they couldn’t care less about the rain as they are so in love.

                                        Professional Wedding Photographer in Nottingham

As a professional wedding photographer in Nottingham and Mansfield, it’s James Davies’ job to reflect the uniqueness of a wedding in his photography. Of course, no two weddings are the same, and he really enjoys capturing the intimate moments that make a wedding truly unique. Traditional wedding photography can be really beautiful, but sometimes James really enjoys thinking outside the box and encouraging clients to have some fun with the location and composition of shots. So here are a few examples of my wedding photography where he have pushed the boundaries a little to create photos with a difference.
