The banners are printed using a process that achieves high quality colour, which hold their intensity even when the LED lights are shining through them. The flex face ‘skin’ is tightened in such a way that it gives the impression of being one flat piece of panel signage.

Shop Signs Sheffield

As experts in shop signs Sheffield, Image Sign Studio recently had the pleasure of manufacturing and installing a flex face sign for the exterior of Sheffield and Hallamshire County Football Association on Meadowhall Road in Sheffield. They also had the pleasure of meeting Uriah Rennie, the retired English football referee who was born in Sheffield. Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA were formed in 1867, making them the first County Football Association in the country to be established.

Flex Face Illuminated Signage

Our expert shop sign makers made the sign from a fabricated aluminium box. A special machine called an aluminium bender was used to create a circle from the metal, in order to create the logo for the football association. A flexible printed PVC banner fascia was then used to stretch across the front of the light box and clipped in position to create a skin over the aluminium frame. This ‘skin’ was then lit from behind with a number of low energy LEDs to illuminate the banner graphic from the inside. The LED lights are cheap to run and create an outstanding effect for a high impact sign.

These Stanley Knife Blades Safety Tips Are Great

Knife-Point supply Stanley knife blades to their customers and have been doing so for many years. The blades are suitable for use across a variety of trades; making them highly appealing to a number of people. They deliver consistent quality and it’s little wonder that they’ve consistently proven to be so popular.

When implementing Stanley knife blades during working tasks it’s absolutely essential to stay safe. You can do this by following the advice of Knife-Point, who have generously put together this safety guide for you to follow:

Locking Stanley Knife Blades

First and foremost, it’s essential that you ensure that replacement blades are locked into place when it comes to changing your Stanley knife blades. As long as you fasten the sharp end to the handle, you’ll be able to ensure total control over the job that you’re carrying out.

Knife Retraction

It may sound simple but plenty of people have been hurt simply because they’ve not remembered to draw the blade back into its handle after use. If you leave it showing, someone could easily be cut; so this is advice that’s well worth making part of your routine when using any sort of blade.

Sharp Blades

A worn blade can spell trouble. If you’ve not changed your existing blades for a long time, you’re running the risk of slippage during implementation. By frequently changing your tools, this problem can be avoided to guarantee that you remain in total control. If the blade is tearing rather than cutting, it needs replacing.

Pull the Knife Towards You

When making a cut on a flat surface, it’s vital that you pull the knife toward you; rather than pushing away in the opposite direction. Again, it’s all to do with remaining in control of the work you’re doing. According to advice on the Stanley website; “a pulling motion is stronger and more positive than pushing the knife away from you and the knife is less likely to slip.”

Have Patience

If you’re in a rush, it can be tempting to speed through the work that you’re carrying out. It’s always more important that you take your time; particularly when it comes to cutting thicker materials. Show patience and cut deeper into the material with each pass.

Adopt the Correct Position

Another useful tip is to kneel or stand to one side of the line of the cut you are making. This advice should be applied when you’re making cuts on a surface below you.

Top quality products, choice of blades and long-lasting tools are some of the many benefits attached to the knives that Knife-Point supply. New Leisure Hub Plans for Ski Village Revealed by Shop Signs Sheffield

New plans are being drawn up to transform the former Sheffield ski village and surrounding area into a major leisure attraction. As professional shop sign makers in Sheffield, Image Sign Studio were interested to see what the fate of the former ski village would be after a deliberate fire reduced the site to ashes in April 2012.

Largest Artificial Ski Resort in Europe

The former ski village was once the largest artificial ski resort in Europe and attracted over 180,000 visitors a year to its slopes. Sheffield Ski Village then suffered due to significant competition from other slopes that offered real snow in Castleford and Milton Keynes. There had been several attempts to attract new visitors by updating the facilities, but developments planned were put on hold due to lack of funds, until a massive fire in 2012 left it in ruins. The area has suffered greatly since, and is now a prime target for more acts of arson, as well as fly tipping and vandalism.

According to local newspaper The Sheffield Star, Sheffield Council is working on a plan to turn the site into a leisure hub. At 150 hectares in total, the land includes Parkwood Springs from Rutland Road in the south to Herries Road in the north. The scheme is set to build on existing facilities at the site, including a 2km mountain bike track that was originally developed by Steve Peat, the World Mountain Bike champion.

A Major Sheffield Attraction

According to recent news, the new facility could also include shops, restaurants and other food and drink outlets. A Sheffield Council spokesman said: “The plan is still very much in the embryonic stages and we will be putting it out to consultation but we want to use the area as a site for leisure. We have a number of suggestions on the table but we are very much open to ideas. It has the potential to be a major attraction that adds to Sheffield’s unique image – offering both city life and outdoor recreation.”

Restaurants, Bars and Shop Signs Sheffield

It’s a real shame that it has been left in a state of disrepair for such a long time and it would be great for the city to take on the opportunity for plenty of new facilities, shops and restaurants. As manufacturers and installers of shop signs Sheffield, Image Sign Studio think it would bring visitors flocking to the city, which would be great for everyone!

LED illuminated shop signs are extremely low maintenance. With their long life spans and excellent energy efficiency, it’s easy to understand why they have fewer maintenance demands than other systems. LEDs never burn out and they are easy to clean. As they don’t need any major protection from the elements, they are perfect for outdoor environments such as on shop fronts.

Greater Design Options With Illuminated Shop Signs

Get Noticed at Night Time

If your shop is open at night, a lit up shop sign will attract business. But even if your business is only open in the day time, illuminated shop signs serve as a silent billboard to people passing on foot or in vehicles in the evening, and they may wish to return during normal working hours.

Energy Efficient LED Lit Signs

The LED bulbs used in our illuminated shop signs are guaranteed for 50,000 hours, and very cheap to run, especially when you compare them to conventional fluorescent tube lighting. We use reliable electrical components of the highest quality, so that your shop sign will always shine brightly!

Now that Christmas is over and the New Year has begun, you may be turning your attention to increasing sales from your retail shop by getting noticed on the high street. Replacing Your Handheld Planer Blades

By following a few simple steps, you can easily change your handheld planer blades. Knife-Point are experts in knife supply and are well placed to advise on such matters. They have been the industry leader in the Sheffield area for a number of years and have put together an extensive guide on how to efficiently change your planer blades:

Cut the Power

This is an absolute necessity. To ensure your safety when you’re carrying out a change of blades, always make sure that the power supply is disconnected to the device. Changing the blades whilst the device is live is an absolute no.

Loosening and Removal

Next, gently loosen the bolts or fasteners on your handheld device. You don’t need to completely remove the fastenings and easy blade removal will be possible through the initial loosening. Make sure that you take care when removing the blade as it’s likely to still be very sharp. You can then spin the cutter head round and repeat the process on the other side.

New Knife Blades

Once you’ve removed the existing blades you can then replace them with your new planer blades. To do this, gently fit the new blade with the shape of the planer blade groove and slide it into place. Hold it in the position where you would like it to remain, then take your wrench and loosely tighten up the outer two bolts on your handheld planer – simple.

Be Careful During the Tightening Process

Taking care during the tightening process is essential. The new blade will be extremely sharp so don’t rush through the replacement process. Before sliding the blade into place you may also need to remove any resin that has been left behind. You can do this using paraffin and oil or by gently scraping the debris away.

Correctly Align

Finally, you need to verify that the knife blade is central in relation to your handheld planer. This is essential, as it will prevent the knife from rubbing on the edges of the machine. Once this has been guaranteed you can finish tightening the bolts. Again, simply repeat this on the other side.

Stanley Knife Blades and Planer Blades from Knife-Point

Knife-Point stocks fine grain tungsten carbide planer blades suitable to fit planers from reputable manufacturers such as AEG and Black & Decker. They understand that everyone needs plenty of choice when it comes to deciding on their new tools and once you purchase from Knife-Point for the first time you’re sure to go back to them.

Shop Sign Makers in Sheffield Comment on New £500m Retail Development Set to Transform City

As Sheffield shop sign makers, Image Sign Studio were understandably delighted by the news of a new shopping centre in the heart of the city. Residents of Sheffield will know that the city centre has suffered in the period since the recession, with shops closing down and significantly less people visiting it, therefore new plans were encouraging for the future of the area.

The future of Sheffield’s city centre has looked uncertain in recent years as new ideas are thrown around and existing plans are scrapped. In a previous post on our Sheffield shop signs blog, we discussed how plans for the Sevenstone shopping centre were frozen last year, only to find out that Sheffield Council are fighting to buy the designated area back from the previous developers in order to restart plans, possibly as early as next year.

“A World Class Team of Sheffield People”

Spokesman John Crowther, who is an ex-chief executive of Vickers Defence Systems, chairman of the Amateur Swimming Association and non-executive director of Sheffield City Trust, said: “This is a world class team of Sheffield people who care about Sheffield and can deliver a scheme that will transform the city centre.”

“We have identified half-a-billion pounds of funding. We want Sheffield people to know there’s a local bid that’s oven-ready to go.” Mr Crowther has also commented that as the plans are a market-led solution, the council will not have to take the risk of diverting money away from other areas, especially at a time of spending cuts.

New Sheffield City Centre Retail Quarter

The latest news from the Sheffield Star reports that a group of Sheffield business people have announced £500 million plans to develop a new city centre retail quarter. Sheffield Retail Development Group says that they have the expertise, financial backing and the passion to ‘transform’ the city centre with a 650,000sq ft development on a five-acre site by the end of 2018. This ambitious date is a year ahead of Sheffield City Council’s plans, and is set to include a range of shops, offices, cinema, restaurant and bars.

Shop Signs Sheffield

Whether the city centre is rejuvenated by the private sector, or with help from the council, shop sign makers Sheffield Image Sign Studio are excited about the plans. They have a passion for helping businesses succeed starting with great signage, and are experts in the manufacture and design of shop signs Sheffield.

18,000 Signatures on Petition to Save Shops on Devonshire Street, Sheffield

Developers have recently submitted a planning application to Sheffield Council to demolish the string of independent retail shops on Devonshire Street and replace them with flats, restaurants and cafes. The application seeks to replace 162 to 170 Devonshire Street, which would result in the closure of the Natural Bed Company, Rare and Racy, the Rag Parade Vintage Store and Syd and Mallory.

Vibrant Retail Quarter Faces Possible Demolition

As professional shop sign makers in Sheffield, we like to keep our eye on what is going on in the various retail areas of the city. The recent news about the possible demolition of a number of shops on Devonshire Street comes as a blow to this vibrant independent retail quarter of Sheffield, and there are many that oppose the plans. Devonshire Street is a popular area of the city centre with an eclectic mix of independent retail shops and quirky boutiques selling everything from vintage jewellery and clothes to second hand books and records.

Petition Handed to City Planners

The petition against the demolition has now been handed in to city planners, which has over 18,000 signatures. Sheffield poet Jonathan Butcher, who stocks his books at the independent book store Rare and Racy, set up the petition. He said: “Those signatures on that petition just show how much people value this area of Sheffield. Students choose to come to Sheffield for the underground music scene and the independent vintage shops and emporiums. People are going to forget what Sheffield is all about it if developers keep building complexes. It’s becoming more and more corporate.”

Comment from Sheffield Central MP Paul Blomfield

Sheffield Central MP Paul Blomfield visited the shop owners to discuss the plans from Sheffield business Primesite Ltd. He said: “I’ve had a lot of constituents get in touch with me and they are really concerned. I share that concern, because I think shops like this on Devonshire Street really make the character of the city centre, it’s not just about the big chains. We want small, independents that give life to the city. I’m really worried that, not only the development but the change in the uses for these units so restaurants and bars can move in will fundamentally weaken the city centre.”
